Erin McCloskey

Professor and Chair of Education

Erin McCloskey earned her BFA in fine arts from Pratt Institute and her MS in special education with a concentration on learning disabilities from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. She completed her PhD in literacy at the University at Albany, SUNY. Certified in art K-12, literacy K-12 and special education K-12, Erin taught for over 15 years at elementary, middle and high schools in both large and small urban areas.

Erin’s research interests include looking at how interactional processes around literacy contribute to what counts as ability/disability. She is the author of the book, Taking on a Learning Disability: At the Crossroads of Special Education and Adolescent Literacy Learning(Information Age Press, 2012). She has presented her work at national and international conferences and her research has appeared in theInternational Journal of Special Education, the International Journal of Inclusive Education and the Journal of Early Childhood Literacy among others.
