Vassar alumna Jane Baker Nord ’42 has made a $3-million gift to the College to endow a new Chair in Media Studies, President Elizabeth H. Bradley announced.

In Associate professor Molly McGlennen’s course, Women’s Studies 262: Native American Women,” students are examining the impact of colonization on Native American nations through the brutal and intentional subjugation of Native women over the past 400 years.

Workshops on “Undoing Racism” spawned the formation of AREJ (Anti-Racism, Equity and Justice), an organization that spurs dialog on race on the campus and in the surrounding community.

The American Academy of Religion has established the Lawrence H. Mamiya Excellence in Public Service Award that honors the legacy of the late Professor of Religion and Africana Studies Lawrence Mamiya, who taught at Vassar for more than 35 years.

Vassar College has received a $156,000 grant from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation that will fund faculty-mentored research projects conducted by six students over the next three years.

As Vassar geared up for the start of the Spring Semester,  the College had protocols in place to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.

Thanks to a gift given in memory of an alumna, a computer-generated music box called a digital carillon serenades the campus twice a day.

The Alumnae/i Association of Vassar College (AAVC) has announced its 2021 awardees: a professor emerita and four alums who have all had a lasting impact on the College and beyond. They are Dr. Patricia James Jordan ’72, P’17; Marie (Dugo) Dilemani ’11; Professor Emerita of Greek and Roman Studies Rachel Kitzinger; retired Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange ’74; and Meryl Streep ’71, P’08, ’13.
