Vassar seniors, first-years, and hundreds of others gathered in the Chapel for the College’s 159th Convocation on September 4. Professor of Political Science Himadeep Muppidi delivered this year’s address.
Professor of Art Yvonne Elet urged members of the Vassar community to view the College’s beautiful and historic campus as a “place that provides a sense of safety and belonging” in her address at Vassar’s 158th Convocation.
Convocation officially kicked off the academic year on August 31. The Convocation address, “How I Got Medieval: From First Gen to PhD,” was delivered by Professor of History Nancy Bisaha.
One of Vassar’s oldest traditions—gathering together for Convocation—resumed for the first time in 747 days on September 22. On a beautiful fall day on Commencement Hill, the campus community celebrated the start of the fall semester. President Elizabeth Bradley’s summed up the occasion succinctly: “I’m so thrilled to be with all of you—on campus, together, at last!”
During Vassar’s Fall Convocation ceremony, Lisa Collins, Professor of Art on the Sarah Gibson Blanding Chair and Professor of American and Africana Studies, gave the Convocation Address, and the Alumnae/i Association of Vassar College bestowed awards upon six distinguished alumnae/i.
Prof. of Psychological Science Abigail Baird, Assistant Prof. of Political Science Taneisha Means, Prof. of Art Molly Nesbit, Prof. of Philosophy Bryan Van Norden and Associate Director of the Vassar Library for Special Collections Ronald Patkus were named recipients of endowed chairs this fall.
Novelist and English Prof. Amitava Kumar talked about the art and craft of writing at Fall Convocation on Sept. 12, and two prominent alumnae were honored.
