Re: Sex Ed Profiles

Many thanks for the fascinating profiles in the Winter 2000 issue of four courageous Vassar alumnae/i involved in the controversial field of sex education. I was especially pleased to see the profile of David Nova ’83

Having attended Vassar between 1964 and 1968, in the years immediately after the American Medical Association endorsed the dissemination of birth control information (in 1964), my contemporaries and I experienced firsthand the sexual liberation that followed. I will probably go to my grave feeling uncertain about whether or not this freedom has been an unmixed blessing for modern women, in the sense that I do not know if it has fostered stronger or weaker monogamous relationships. At the very least it has provided useful information in a realm previously cloaked in darkness and ignorance.
