Multidisciplinary class and faculty collaborations at Vassar are nothing new, but a
new initiative is strengthening integration of the arts into the wide range of
disciplines taught on campus.
Creative Arts Across Disciplines (CAAD), a three-year program funded through a
$750,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation beginning in 2014, provides
financial assistance and other support for faculty members who wish to create a
new course, or modify an existing one, by integrating the arts into the curriculum.
In addition to supporting multidisciplinary courses, CAAD funds visiting artists and
a summer multi-arts program. Below, read about three CAAD-supported offerings that took place during the spring semester.
