Spring Board of Trustees Meeting
Dear all,
I am writing to update you on the recent Spring Board of Trustees Meeting.
It was a busy weekend for the Board, but I thought I would highlight a few of their key activities below:
- Board members had dinner with graduating seniors who had won competitive fellowships (both Vassar fellowships and external fellowships). This dinner was hosted by the Student and Academic Affairs Committee of the Board.
- Board members had lunch with several faculty members and administrators who will host Signature Programs at the Institute for the Liberal Arts in the 2024–2025 Academic Year.
- Board members took tours of the Vassar Institute for the Liberal Arts, the Heartwood, and the Salt Line Restaurant. Thank you to our Facilities Operations and Heartwood teams for hosting these tours!
- The Board heard a presentation on the Institute for the Liberal Arts from Faculty Director Bob Brigham and Program Director Wesley Dixon. The Board also heard a presentation on the Vassar Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program from Vice President of Technology and Human Resources, Carlos Garcia — you can read about some of VIE’s work here. And lastly, the Board heard a presentation about the College’s overall communications strategy from Vice President of Communications, Victoria Grantham.
- The Board honored retiring trustees (Tony Friscia ‘78, Mark Ordan ‘79, Robert Tanenbaum P ’12) and retiring Student Observer to the Board (Olivia Gross ’24) with a special dinner in the Alumnae House.
- The Executive Committee of the Board met with several students to hear a presentation regarding divestment from military and defense-related investments.
- And, the Board voted to confer degrees to the graduates of the Class of 2024! Congratulations to all the graduated seniors! The Board could not be more proud of your accomplishments.
Thank you to many different groups on campus that played a role in making the Board meetings successful. If you ever have any questions (or ideas) related to the Board, please do not hesitate to contact me or Wesley Dixon, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, at wdixon@vassar.edu.
