Dear all,
It is with sadness that I write to let you know that Carollynn Costella, History and Multidisciplinary Librarian, has died. This weekend, she experienced a cardiac arrest from which she could not be revived. She is survived by her parents Terry Ann and Jon Marshall and her son Otis.
During her 18 years at Vassar, Carollynn worked closely with students and faculty across the college, helping to bring their research and scholarship to fruition. Carollynn brought kindness, empathy, and humanity to everything she did. Whether she was working closely with students on research projects, collaborating with campus colleagues on Engaged Pluralism initiatives, working with Celebrating the African Spirit, or simply passing by in the hallway, Carollynn always led with warmth and understanding. She modeled, in many ways, the best aspects of the Vassar community. Carollynn was the heart of the Celebrating the African Spirit’s summer high school intensive with Poughkeepsie High School students.
The College has resources for anyone having difficulty coping with this news. For students on campus this summer, the CARES Office can help connect students with local support resources. The Counseling Service website also includes helpful information about Summer and Semester Break Resources. Employees may receive free, immediate, short-term counseling through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) by calling 1-800-624-5544. Employees may also schedule free and unlimited phone or video counseling sessions through TelaDoc/HealthiestYou by calling 1-866-703-1259.
The community at Vassar was made better by Carollynn’s presence with us. She loved Vassar, and Vassar loved her. She will be profoundly missed. Our hearts and thoughts are with Carollynn’s family and loved ones at this time.
The public celebration of life will take place on Saturday, July 27 from 2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown, New York. More Information
