College Admissions Policies Guidance

Dear all,

I am writing to reflect on the recent federal Departments of Education and Justice joint letter providing guidance on college admissions policies as they relate to race. I want to assure our community that Vassar remains steadfast in our commitment to continuing to proactively attract and support a diverse and inclusive campus community.

The current law, which remains unchanged, allows colleges and universities to consider race as one of many factors when making admissions decisions. Higher education is an unparalleled engine of social and economic mobility, and can help people lead more meaningful lives. The diversity of our campus community is central to the excellence, relevance, and positive influence of the Vassar education.
