Sad News about Alejandro Andrade Garcia ’19

Dear Vassar community,

I am writing with very sad news. I have just learned that Alejandro Andrade Garcia (Class of 2019) passed away on August 29, 2018 after a long illness. He was living at home with his family in Arizona.

Alejandro was a valued member of our campus community and will be deeply missed. A first-generation college student, Alejandro was also a member of the Transitions family. Alejandro is remembered fondly for sharing the specialty food and candies that he received from his family in Arizona with his Transitions peers. While at Vassar, Alejandro also played on the Men’s Rugby team. His family has requested pictures or memories of Alejandro while he was here at Vassar. Dean Alamo will forward these to the family.

Capria Berry, Director of the First-generation, Low Income (FLI) Program (formerly the Transitions Program), will hold FLI Living Room Hours today (Friday) from 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. for anyone who would like to get together and talk or be in community. Details about a memorial service will be forthcoming.

If you would like to talk with a counselor, Metcalf is open from 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. You may also reach a counselor on call at any time by phoning 845-437-7333. Religious and Spiritual Life and Contemplative Practice staff are also available Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., 845-437-5550.

Our thoughts are with Alejandro’s friends and family.

With sadness,
