Update on Posters
Dear all,
I am writing to update you on recent developments concerning the anti-Semitic posters that were put up on campus this past Sunday. Thanks in part to the swift action of our Safety & Security and Bias Incident Response Team, and work of the Poughkeepsie Police Department, the individual we believe was responsible for hanging the posters on our campus as well as on the campuses of other colleges in the area was apprehended. According to the police, he is not affiliated with Vassar College in any way. The posters were the work of an organization that the Southern Poverty Law Center has deemed a neo-Nazi and white supremacist group that espouses racist and anti-Semitic beliefs.
Although authorities have advised that no criminal law was broken and therefore no legal charges are being filed, Vassar has banned this individual from campus. Our security team has his name and photo and if he enters our campus police will be called and he will be arrested.
I am proud of how we came together as a community.
Through the cooperation of the different colleges, we were able to collectively reject the attempts of this outside group to perpetuate its message of intolerance. We at Vassar stand with our Jewish students, students of color, survivors of sexual assault, and all members of our community whom this group would seek to target.
Thanks,
Elizabeth H. Bradley
