Dean of Studies Appointment
Dear all,
Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Professor Debra Zeifman as the next Dean of Studies! Her five-year term begins July 1, 2019.
Professor Zeifman came to Vassar as an assistant professor of Psychology in 1996 and was appointed full professor in 2013. During her time at Vassar, she has been a prolific scholar and engaged in multiple service and administrative roles including the Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid, the Fellowship Committee, and the Institutional Review Board. She has chaired the Psychological Science Department from 2014-2017 and directed the Vassar Jewish Studies Multidisciplinary Program in 2009-2010. Professor Zeifman is a highly successful teacher in psychology and is an active research mentor for the URSI and Ford Scholars programs. She is known to be an empathic, trusted resource for students and faculty alike, and has demonstrated excellent leadership and management skills and a highly ethical and transparent approach to all that she does.
I am thankful to the students and faculty who served on the committee that guided the search and selection process: James Boyd, Leslie Dunn (Chair), Dara Greenwood, Maria Hantzopoulos, Henrik Olsson, Meg Ronsheim, and Mehda Venkat-Ramani. I also want to thank Dean Ben Lotto for his tremendous service to the college as Dean of Studies, and we will have time to celebrate his contributions before he returns to the faculty in July.
Welcome to the deanship Professor Zeifman!
