Reflections on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Dear all,
As we prepare for the start of a new semester, let us remember the important role we each play in fostering an environment of understanding, compassion, and equity in which we each have the ability to thrive as our whole selves. As I reflect on Dr. King's legacy, I am reminded of the following quote:
"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant."
-- Dr. Martin Luther King, 1964, Oslo, Norway
Even as we live in a world that can be indifferent and cruel, we can aspire to keep unarmed truth and unconditional love at the forefront of our hearts and minds as we each play our individual part in nurturing the world and campus community we want to see.
At Vassar we will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King tomorrow (Tuesday, January 21st) at 9:00am in the Aula at the Second Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Breakfast. The Administrative Fellows have collaborated with the President's Office to bring our campus together and collectively reflect on the importance of community and family. The program promises to be an exciting one. I look forward to seeing you all there!
Thanks,
Betsy
