A Message From the President
Dear all,
I am writing to provide an update on a significant step in our ongoing efforts to navigate the financial crisis caused by COVID-19. I am thankful to the Communications Workers of America (CWA), who have come to an agreement with the College. The agreement establishes protocols for furlough of CWA union members. With the agreement, the unit’s clerical staff, technical support workers, and nurses may be furloughed between June 8 and July 31 or later. The union also agreed to a modified annual wage increase. The College has committed that there will be no layoffs between July 31, 2020 and December 31, 2021.
As is the case with our previously announced agreements, furloughed employees are eligible for unemployment benefits. To assist in the event of delayed state benefits payments, the College will make an interest-free loan available to furloughed employees. Repayment of such loans would take place over pay periods upon returning back to work.
Our Communications Workers are deeply valued members of our community, and I am grateful for their dedication and commitment to keeping the College running smoothly. I thank each individual as well as the union leaders for their generosity and integrity in helping all of us deal with the effects of COVID-19.
Through the College Forum, I will continue to provide updates on our financial condition and various responses we are taking to adapt to the economic challenges resulting from the pandemic.
Thanks,
Elizabeth H. Bradley, President
