The Unprecedented and Devastating Fires Ravaging California, Washington, and Oregon
Dear All,
I am writing with a heavy heart, recognizing the unprecedented and devastating fires ravaging California, Washington, and Oregon. Entire towns have been flattened, with more than 2.5 million acres now charred. Firefighters and first responders are working day and night, and still, many fires are not close to being contained.
More than 300 students at Vassar come from these three states, and likely almost everyone knows someone affected by this national disaster. In this time of enormous uncertainty due to the pandemic, the added threat of wildfires and potential loss of life and livelihood are difficult to take in. Please take extra time with each other to check in and support each other. We need each other’s care and understanding. If you or anyone you know needs extra support, we are here for you and want to help. You can reach out to Dean Alamo, Counseling Services, your faculty, and me.
Take care,
President Bradley
