Fall Board of Trustees Meeting

Dear all,

I hope you enjoyed Fall Break. I am writing to update you on the recent Fall Board of Trustees Meeting. Overall, it was wonderful to have our Trustees back on campus interacting with our community. This was only our second in-person meeting since February of 2020!

It was a busy weekend for the Board, but I thought I would highlight a few of their key activities below:

  • We welcomed our new Trustees (Eric Liu ’08, Francesca Gutierrez Amann ’91, Amy Gurley P ’26, Ernie Ceberio ’94, and Patrick DeYoung ’18) to the Board and the participated in a full-day New Trustee Orientation that included one-on-one meetings with members of the Senior Team and Julián Aguilar and Natalie Frank in their roles as Student and Faculty Observer to the Board of Trustees.
  • Board members had dinner with students and House Fellows living in Noyes, Cushing, and Raymond. Thank you very much to House Fellows David Esteban, Kimberly Williams Brown, and Leroy Cooper for hosting these dinners and providing opportunities for our students to interact directly with our Trustees.
  • Board members took tours of Campus Spaces, including The Library, Chicago Hall, Davison House, Raymond House, Walker Field House, the Old Laundry Building, and Baldwin Hall. These tours gave Board members a good sense of the state of our physical plant and allowed them to see spaces that have been recently renovated as well as spaces that could benefit from some additional investments. Thank you to our Facilities Teams for ensuring the campus looked amazing for these tours and the rest of the weekend’s activities!
  • The Board received a report from Vice President and Dean of Admission and Student Financial Services, Sonya Smith, on the first-year Class of 2026, and needless to say they were very impressed by the academic quality and range of unique experiences and skills represented in this first-year class.
  • The Board heard a presentation from Vice President of Advancement Tim Kane about the activities that were to take place as part of the launch of the Comprehensive Campaign and reviewed some of the main themes and priorities of the Comprehensive Campaign. If you want to learn more about the Campaign and/or see some of the panels and announcements from the Campaign launch, feel free to review the Campaign website.

Thank you to many different groups on campus that played a role in making the Board meetings successful. If you ever have any questions (or ideas) related to the Board, please do not hesitate to contact me or Wesley Dixon, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, at wdixon@vassar.edu.

Thanks, and have a good week,
