Sad News: Alex Koechlin
Dear all,
It is with sadness I relay some tragic news. Alex Koechlin, son of Professor Tim Koechlin, has died. The cause was multiple organ failure, mostly caused by acute liver failure. Alex was 32 years old. Alex was beloved, with tremendous promise. He was a gifted writer and a brilliant, funny, and kind human being. Alex enjoyed stand-up comedy, basketball, lazy days on Indian Lake in the Adirondack State Park and, perhaps most of all, good, engaging conversation over pizza and wings. Alex made people laugh.
Alex leaves his parents Tim Koechlin and Susan Walzer, his sister Leah, his partner Krista, his stepmother Katherine Joyce, and a large extended family. Alex was a student at Vassar in 2008 and was a friend to many in the Vassar community. He was a graduate of the New School, and the International Culinary Institute.
Please join me in surrounding our colleague with love and care as the days and weeks and months wear on. Our hearts go out to Professor Koechlin and his family. A memorial gathering is being planned for September.
