Sad News: Sam North

October 21, 2024

Dear all,

I am writing with sad news. On Friday, October 18, Sam North passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Sam had worked at Vassar and served this community for more than 18 years. He worked as part of Campus Safety for the majority of his time at Vassar, and in September of 2022, Sam became a Custodial Supervisor in Facilities Operations.

Sam led his custodial team with positivity and enthusiasm, and he was a trusted friend to many.  He was a hardworking and dedicated supervisor and will be dearly missed. Sam is survived by his wife Carolyn and son Samuel. Let us keep them in our minds and hearts in this tremendously difficult time.

The sudden loss of our fellow employee and friend is deeply felt. If you need support as an employee, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available for free, short-term counseling and can be reached by calling 1-800-624-5544. Employees may also schedule free and unlimited phone or video counseling sessions through TelaDoc/HealthiestYou by calling 1-866-703-1259. Students may access Student Counseling Services as described here if needed.

Take care,
