Leadership

Dynamic Collaboration

Sustainability at Vassar is centered on collaboration, making use of the diverse talents and strengths of members of our community. Offices and departments across campus come up with and pursue actions to advance sustainability. Students, faculty, and staff bring their unique perspectives to the table as we work together to set and achieve ambitious goals. The Office of Sustainability leads sustainability work, facilitating cross-campus strategic action by fostering collaboration, providing expert assistance, and developing and implementing key initiatives. Overall guidance is provided by the Climate Action and Sustainability Committee.

The Climate Action and Sustainability Committee

Chaired by the Dean of Strategic Planning and Academic Resources, the Climate Action and Sustainability Committee (CASC) includes representatives from the faculty, the administration, and students. It exists to facilitate discussion and decision making in relation to College sustainability aspirations and goals. It presents changes related to education policy to the faculty for approval and is advisory to the President on administrative policies. The committee reports annually to the President, Trustees, and the Vassar community at-large on progress achieved and future action items.

The Committee consists of the Dean of Strategic Planning and Academic Resources (chair), the Director of Sustainability, the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Budget Director, the Assistant Vice President of Facilities Operations, three faculty members (2 elected, 1 appointed—the Faculty Sustainability Coordinator), the Vassar Student Association Sustainability Executive, and two other students.
