More than 80 students engaged in research projects on the Vassar campus this summer with 33 faculty members under the auspices of the Undergraduate Research Summer Institute (URSI).

Ten Vassar students spent the summer working for not-for-profit organizations in Poughkeepsie under the auspices of the Office of Community-Engaged Learning’s Community Fellows program.

Vassar secured a $40,000 grant enabling the College to digitize nearly 300 recordings of choral groups, musical plays and other audio recordings from phonograph records, tapes and compact discs.

Vassar was recognized for its outstanding contributions to the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International with two major awards this year. The Office of Residential Life received the President’s Service Award, and Luis Inoa, Associate Dean of the College for Residential Life and Wellness, was recognized for outstanding contributions by a professional of color.

The Vassar community lost two influential leaders in the Africana Studies Program this month: Professor Emeritus Milfred Fierce, largely considered the “godfather” of Africana Studies (previously Black Studies) at Vassar and Professor Emeritus Norman Hodges, the first tenured Black professor in History and Africana Studies.

Vassar College President Elizabeth H. Bradley and Town of Poughkeepsie Supervisor Jay Baisley officially opened the College’s 40-unit faculty and staff housing building in a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 12.

Will Dwyer ’20 has been awarded a three-year Knight-Hennessy Scholars grant to pursue his PhD in molecular biology at Stanford University.
