Elias Kim ’16

Ever since he became interested in a legal career, Elias Kim ’16 has aspired to argue cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Just three years out of law school, Kim has landed a government fellowship that will enable him to work with attorneys who specialize in such cases.

This photo was taken in January 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in Poughkeepsie and mentors were able to come to the Vassar campus to talk to students about their career paths. But this year’s virtual Sophomore Career Connections event succeeded in connecting more than 250 students with 81 alumni and parents.

More than 250 students took part in this year’s Sophomore Career Connections, a virtual event hosted by the Career Development Office.

When Lidiya Yankovskaya ’08 became Music Director of Chicago Opera Theater in 2017, she was the only woman with that title at a multimillion-dollar American opera company. Her success in her chosen field despite these incredibly long odds is a direct result, she says, of the early support of her alma mater.

Food can say a lot-not just about our tastes, but about our families, our ancestors, our histories. Vassar students will learn more about the importance of the link between food and history during a Black History Month two-day program at Gordon Commons that centers around the Netflix series High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America.
