Arpitha Kodiveri, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Is Author of Governing Forests
Arpitha Kodiveri, Assistant Professor of Political Science, is the author of the recently published Governing Forests (Melbourne University Press). Her book contrasts climate emergency responses in the Global North, such as emissions trading schemes and the exploration of alternative energy sources, with the more “life and death” decisions about natural resource use facing owners and inhabitants of nations in the Global South.
As an environmental law and justice scholar, Arpitha’s work has focused on the role of law in redressing climate harms. For this book, she explores local community solutions and visions for forest areas, working “alongside many of India’s forest-dwelling communities” to learn how they “bear the cost of both rapacious mining development and increasing pressure for forest land to be set aside for environmental conservation.”
