The Last Plantation: Racism in the Halls of Congress

Apr. 19, 2023, 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
Location:

Rockefeller Hall 200

In this lecture, Dr. James R. Jones investigates the careers, work experiences, and activism of Black congressional staffers. He demonstrates how lawmakers and lawmaking has maintained a racialized workplace. Given that Congress is the source of federal laws, it is an ideal site to understand how white supremacy diffuses through law, politics, and everyday social life.

James R. Jones is an assistant professor of Africana studies and sociology. He is the inaugural Director for the Center on Politics and Race in America at Rutgers University–Newark.

Sponsored by the Sociology Department. Co-sponsored by the Political Science Department and Africana Studies Program.
