Tribute to Ray Cook
Kenyon Hall, Frances Daly Fergusson Dance Theater
Please join us to remember and celebrate the life of Professor Ray Cook, a widely admired Professor of Dance who passed away earlier this year. Prior to teaching at Vassar, Ray was a dancer and notator for the most prominent modern dance choreographers of the mid-20th century. His work led him to restage dances around the country and across the globe. During his years at Vassar, 1981-1996, Professor Cook originated Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre and taught several iconic dance works to VRDT students. He was an inspiration and mentor to many students, and continued to play an important role in their lives beyond their graduation.
Former students and others who would like to honor Ray are invited to commemorate his legacy with spoken tributes, photos, video, and a special performance of works that Ray staged for his students by current dancers of the Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre. Light reception to follow.
The tribute will take place in the Frances Daly Fergusson Dance Theater, Kenyon Hall.
RSVP by October 2, with your name and number of guests, to Peggy Cheng ’93, peggyhcheng@gmail.com.
If you wish to speak at the tribute, please contact Miriam Mahdaviani, Chair of Dance, mimahdaviani@vassar.edu.
