Join alum Jonathan Silberberg, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker and producer, for an engaging discussion about the challenges and rewards of a career in documentary filmmaking and how the field is rapidly transforming today. Jonathan’s credits include the Academy Award-winning Summer of Soul directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, the Emmy-winning Boys State, and the Emmy-winning Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie.
In this talk, Silberberg will share a brief overview of his work, his career, and the quickly evolving documentary business, followed by an open conversation. Topics may include the rapid and revolutionary changes in the attention and entertainment economies, the impact of emerging technologies on filmmaking, the ethical dilemmas of telling real people’s stories, and the potential and pitfalls of nonfiction narrative storytelling as a tool for entertainment, education, and activism.
