Philosopher’s Holiday Lecture Series presents “The Thin Blue Lie: How Policing Upholds Injustice by Eliza Orlins”
Rockefeller Hall, Room 300
Policing in America is often framed as a system designed to protect and serve, but the reality is far more complex—and far more troubling. Drawing on over 15 years as a public defender, Eliza Orlins will expose how policing disproportionately targets marginalized communities, fuels mass incarceration, and fails to deliver true public safety. Through real-world cases and systemic analysis, this talk will challenge common misconceptions, explore the deep flaws in modern policing, and ask what real justice and accountability could look like. This event is open to the public.
Sponsored by the Philosophy Department, the Political Science Department, the Women, Feminist, and Queer Studies Program, the Urban Studies Program, and the American Studies Program.
