Women’s Rugby

Eight players scored tries in Vassar’s 74-5 victory over Temple University in the American Collegiate Rugby Championship game December 3 in Matthews, NC. Emily Howell ’22 scored three times and was named tournament MVP. Vivika Sheppard ’22 and Julia Busby ’22 scored twice, and Kira Nolan ’22, Asia Baker ’24, Hannah Thompson ’23, Claire Zickl ’23, and Kasey Drake ’23 each scored once. Marie Claire Cicenia ’23 kicked seven conversions.

Vassar advanced to the finals of the American Collegiate Rugby Association Championships with victories over Colby College, 53-5 on November 20, and 36-20 over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on November 21 at Vassar Farm. Howell scored six tries in the win over Colby and four in the game against the Coast Guard Academy.

The Brewers won the Tri-State Conference title November 6 at Vassar Farm, defeating Fairfield University, 75-7. Howell scored seven tries, and Nolan kicked five conversions.

Vassar advanced to the finals of the Tri-State Conference Championship with a 47-0 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on October 30 at Vassar Farm. Nolan and Howell each scored three tries, and Nolan kicked a conversion.

Vassar defeated Rutgers University, 63-5, in the quarterfinals of the Tri-State Conference Championship, defeating Rutgers University, 63-5, October 24 at Vassar Farm. Howell scored four tries, and Nolan kicked four conversions.

Men’s Rugby

Jack Gibbard ’25 and Zach Neri ’25 scored tries in Vassar’s 36-19 loss to Drew University November 7 at Vassar Farm. The Brewers finished the season with a 4-4 record.

The Brewers fell to Princeton University, 14-0, October 30 at Vassar Farm.

Vassar overcame an early 5-0 deficit and defeated Montclair State University, 27-18, October 24 at Vassar Farm. Flanker Ali Sadek ’22 scored a try midway through the second half to put the Brewers ahead for good.

Field Hockey

Vassar finished the season with a 2-1 loss to Endicott College in the first round of the NCAA Division III championships November 10 on Weinberg Turf Field. The Brewers outshot Endicott, 8-5, but Gianna Trunfio ’25 scored the lone Vassar goal late in the fourth quarter.

Hailey Brigger ’24 scored on a penalty stroke in overtime to lift the Brewers (13-6, 6-3 Liberty League) to a 1-0 victory over Ithaca College in the finals of the Liberty League Championships November 6 on the Ithaca, NY, campus.

Vassar advanced to the finals of the Liberty League playoffs with a 4-0 win over St. Lawrence University November 3 on Weinberg Turf Field. Brigger opened the scoring at 9:28 of the first period. Max Meijaard ’25, Sam Kass ’24, and Ella Pearl ’23 scored the other tallies.

SUNY New Paltz defeated Vassar, 2-1, on a shootout on October 30 on the New Paltz, NY, campus. The teams traded goals in regulation, but New Paltz edged the Brewers in the shootout, 2-1. Heidi Zahnleuter ’22 scored on a pass from Brigger in the 34th minute.

The University of Scranton scored the only goal of the game late in the third quarter, defeating Vassar, 1-0, on the Scranton, PA, campus. The Brewers outshot Scranton, 6-2.

Tori Baker ’25 scored late in the first half and the Vassar defense did the rest in a 1-0 victory over the University of Rochester October 22 on the Rochester, NY, campus. Kelsey O’Connell ’24 assisted on the goal.

Men’s Basketball

Zach Johnson ’23 grabbed a school-record 20 rebounds in Vassar’s 70-57 win over Union College December 7 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Johnson led all Vassar scorers with 19 points. Kevin McAuliffe ’23 added 15.

Vassar used clutch foul shooting down the stretch to defeat Hobart College, 68-65, December 4 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The Brewers connected on five free throws in the final two minutes. Ethan Ellis ’23 led all scorers with 17 points. Johnson had 13, and Avni Mustafaj ’23 added 10, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line.

The Brewers used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Ithaca College, 71-66, December 3 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Mustafaj led all scorers with 19 points. Jack Rothenberg ’23 had 15, and Johnson scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Vassar defeated Mount Saint Mary College, 72-64, in the finals of the Hudson Valley Tournament November 20 on the Mount Saint Mary campus in Newburgh, NY. The Brewers defeated SUNY New Paltz, 77-73, in the opening round November 19. Rothenberg and McAuliffe each tallied 18 points in the championship game. Ellis led all Vassar scorers in the win against New Paltz with 23. Johnson finished with 19 points and a team-high 14 rebounds.

The Brewers used a stifling defense and balanced scoring to defeat Hartwick College, 95-50, November 15 on the Hartwick campus in Oneonta, NY. Vassar allowed just 11 Hartwick field goals on 38 shots after the break, outscoring the Hawks by a 63-30 margin. Johnson and Mustafaj each finished with 14 points, and Ellis added 11.

Vassar fell to Elizabethtown College and Albright College at the Hochberg Family Tip-Off Tournament at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Elizabethtown defeated the Brewers, 71-65, on November 12, and Albright won the consolation game on November 13, 68-60. Johnson scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the loss to Elizabethtown. Ellis and Mustafaj each scored 11 in the loss to Albright.

The Brewers opened the season with an 88-42 loss to Yale University November 9 in New Haven, CT. Mustafaj led Vassar scorers with 12 points. Johnson grabbed 10 rebounds.

Women’s Basketball

Vassar won its third straight Liberty League game December 7, defeating Union College, 60-54, at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Sarah Gillooly ’22 and Dani Douglas ’22 each finished with 19 points. Julia Harvey ’25 had 15.

Douglas connected on 8 of 11 three-point attempts to pace Vassar to a 95-71 victory over William Smith College December 4 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Douglas finished with 28 points. Harvey had 17.

Emily Trincher ’25 came off the bench to score 20 points in Vassar’s 71-64 win over Ithaca College December 3 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Harvey and Gillooly added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

New York University defeated Vassar, 84-64, November 23 at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility. Gillooly led all Brewers scorers with 19 points. Harvey added 14, and Tova Gelb ’25 had 13.

Springfield College defeated Vassar, 69-61, November 20 on the Springfield, MA, campus. Douglas led Vassar with 18 points and eight rebounds.

A late Vassar rally fell just short, as Williams College edged the Brewers, 63-60, November 15 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Douglas led all scorers with 17 points. Harvey had 15.

Smith College and Tufts University posted victories over the Brewers November 13 and 14 on the Smith campus in Northampton, MA. Douglas led Vassar with 15 points in the 80-55 loss to Smith. Gillooly had 15 points in the 69-59 loss to Tufts.

Men’s Soccer

Vassar (11-4-2, 5-2-2 Liberty League) ended its season November 2 with a 2-0 loss on Gordon Field to St. Lawrence University in the quarterfinals of the Liberty League Championships. The Brewers had six shots on goal. Goalkeeper Eric Wnorowski ’22 made eight saves.

Ithaca College edged the Brewers, 1-0, in the final game of the regular season October 30. Wnorowski had six saves.

The Brewers extended their winning streak to seven games with a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute October 27 on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. The Engineers opened the scoring 14 minutes into the game, but Quinn Tunnell ’22 tied the score 10 minutes later. Ryan Lane ’22 got the game winner in the 59th minute on a pass from Kinlay Watkins ’23. Wnorowski stopped six RPI shots.

Vassar and Hobart battled to a 0-0 draw October 23 on the Hobart campus in Geneva, NY. Wnorowski had seven saves.

Women’s Soccer

Vassar (9-7-1, 4-5-1 Liberty League) fell to Union College, 1-0, in overtime in the first round of the Liberty League playoffs November 2 on the Union campus in Schenectady, NY. Union had a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.

The Brewers outshot Ithaca College, 13-10, but lost by a 1-0 score October 30 on the Ithaca, NY, campus.

Violet Munnelly ’23 and Allie Foote ’25 scored in the second half, propelling Vassar to a 2-0 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute October 27 on Gordon Field.

William Smith College scored three goals in the second half, defeating the Brewers, 4-1, October 23 at Gordon Field. Riley Lipman ’25 scored Vassar’s only goal on a cross from Munnelly.

Men’s Cross Country

Vassar finished 21st in the NCAA Division III Championships November 20 in Louisville, KY. Jack Casalino ’22 was the Brewers’ top finisher, covering the 8k course in 24:44.2 He was 72nd in the 294-runner field. Miles Takiguchi ’23 was 106th with a time of 25:02.6, and Reed Dolan ’22 was 108th in 25:04.9.

Vassar posted its best showing in history at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship November 13 in Waterford, CT. The team finished fourth in a 26-team field. Takiguchi, Dolan, Casalino, and Johnathan Dean ’22 were named to the all-region team. Takiguchi finished 10th overall in the 8k event with a time of 25:24.9.

Vassar defeated seven other teams to win the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) championship November 6 in Milton, NY. Gibran-Marc Mourani ’22 finished sixth overall on the 8k course with a time of 29:33.4.

Five Vassar runners finished in the top 14, but the Brewers were edged by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 36-38, in the Liberty League Championships October 30 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Takiguchi finished second overall in 25:52.8 to pace the Brewers in the 8k race. He was joined on the All-Liberty League First Team by Casalino, who was fourth overall in 25:53.5. Dolan, Dean, and Aidan Mayer ’24 captured Second Team honors finishing sixth, 12th, and 14th, respectively.

Women’s Cross Country

Augusta Stockman ’23 finished 121st in a 293-runner field at the NCAA Division III Championships November 20 in Louisville, KY. Stockman posted a time of 22:34.6 in the 6k race. Sasha Allison ’22 was 134th with a time of 22:39.3.

Stockman and Allison earned all-region honors at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships November 13 in Waterford, CT. The Brewers finished 10th in a 24-team field. Allison was 12th with a time of 22:36.2 in the 6k race. Stockman was 13th at 22:36.8.

Allison and Stockman earned All-Liberty League First Team honors, finishing second and fourth, respectively, at the Liberty League Championships October 30 in Saratoga Springs NY. Vassar finished fourth in the nine-team field. Allison posted a time of 23:27.6 in the 6k race, and Stockman finished in 23:43.6. Clara Weisler ’24 was 22nd overall, and Noni Pattington ’25 was 25th.

Women’s Volleyball

Sara Ehnstrom ’22 capped her Vassar career with 12 kills, but the Brewers (7-12, 2-5 Liberty League) fell to Montclair State University in three sets October 30 at Kenyon Gym.

New York University defeated Vassar in straight sets October 29 at Kenyon Gym. Hailey Hayes ’25 had eight kills, and Ehnstrom added seven.

Outside hitter Hayes registered a team-high 14 kills as Vassar defeated SUNY New Paltz, 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 25-15), October 27 on the New Paltz, NY campus. Madison Wilson ’22 had 28 assists.

Vassar battled Ithaca College in three closely contested sets October 23 at Kenyon Gym. The Brewers fell by scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-23. Ehnstrom had 10 kills, 11 digs, and a block assist.

Rochester Institute of Technology swept Vassar in straight sets October 22 at Kenyon Gym. Wilson had 11 assists, two kills, and four digs.

Men’s Swimming and Diving

Vassar finished 5th in a 10-team field at the Bombers Invitational December 3, 4, and 5 on the Ithaca, NY, campus. Robbie Perot ’23 was second overall in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:35.83. Ben Glazebnik ’25 posted a season-best 56.29 in the 100-yard individual medley, good for eighth overall.

The Brewers defeated SUNY New Paltz, 173-94, November 19 at Kresge Pool. Vassar took the top three spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle led by Perot, who won the race with a time of 1:45.97. Glazebnik won the 50-yard freestyle and was a part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team. Other members of the team were Brandon Li ’22, Nikolas Pham ’22, and Max White ’22.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute defeated Vassar, 175-100, on November 13 in the RPI pool in Troy, NY. Pham finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Hanlin Wang ’24 was third. Sam Fujikawa ’22 was second in the three-meter diving event.

Vassar won the 400-yard freestyle relay and finished in the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle in a 184-101 victory over Skidmore College November 6 on the Skidmore campus in Saratoga Springs, NY. Members of the relay team were Li, Pham, White, and Glazebnik. Glazebnik won the 200-yard freestyle. Fujikawa won the one-meter diving competition.

Montclair State University defeated Vassar, 160-135, October 30 on the Montclair (NJ) State campus. White won the 200-yard breast stroke and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.

Brandeis University defeated Vassar, 182-89, October 23 on the Brandeis campus in Waltham, MA. Fujikawa and Jacob Cerone ’25 finished first and second, respectively, on the one-meter diving competition.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

The Brewers finished 4th in an 11-team field at the Bombers Invitational on the Ithaca (NY) College campus. Jesse Ecklund ’22 won the 200-yard backstroke, and Abby Whittington ’23 was seventh overall in the 100-yard freestyle.

Vassar posted a 177-90 win over SUNY New Paltz November 19 at Kresge Pool. Ecklund, Whittington, Alejandra Robins ’24, and Maya Luongo ’25 won the 200-yard medley relay. Ecklund also won the 200-yard freestyle.

Vassar fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 164-112, November 13 in the RPI pool in Troy, NY. Sarah Quintana ’24 and Alanna Muello ’24 a posted season-best marks in the 200-yard freestyle. Quintana was second in 2:02.45, and Muello was third in 202.83.

Vassar eked out a 148-140 win over Skidmore College November 6 in the Skidmore pool. The 200-yard medley relay team—Quintana, Robins, Whittington, and Lillian Lowenthal ’23—opened the meet with a two-second victory over the Skidmore team. Quintana also won the 100-yard backstroke, and Lowenthal won the 200-yard butterfly.

Montclair State University defeated Vassar, 162.5 to 135.5, October 30 in the Montclair (NJ) State pool. Robins won the 200-yard butterfly and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team.

Quintana won the 100-yard backstroke in Vassar’s 146-121 loss to Brandeis University October 23 on the Brandeis campus in Waltham, MA.

Women’s Rowing

Vassar’s Novice 8 boat finished eighth in a field of 19 boats at the Head of the Fish Regatta October 30 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Members of the crew were coxswain Mary Carew-Miller ’24, Kirby Shealy ’24, Avery Little ’24, Danny White ’25, Izzy McGuire ’24, Lily Townsend ’24, Izzy McClements ’23, Abby Straus ’25, and Rachel Ostrowski ’24. The Collegiate 8 finished 22nd, the Collegiate 2V8 was 23rd, the Collegiate Four+ A boat was 31st, and the Collegiate 4+ B boat was 32nd.

Vassar’s Varsity 8 finished 39th overall at the Head of the Charles Regatta October 24 in Cambridge, MA. Crew members were coxswain Mary Carew-Miller ’24 and Hana Stella ’23, Birky Cook ’23, Ally Lau ’22, Angela Payne ’22, Izzy McGuire ’24, Claire Mitchell ’24, Lucy Volino ’23, and Sarah Winickoff ’25.

Men’s Rowing

Vassar’s Men’s Collegiate Novice Four finished 12th overall at the Head of the Fish Regatta October 30 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Crew members were coxswain Celeste Weidemann ’24, Michael Yang ’24, Owen Scollard ’24, Gage Karlin ’24, and Jakob Huddleston ’24. The Collegiate Four finished 27th, the A Boat Coxswain Four was 31st, and the Collegiate 8 finished 18th.

Men’s Fencing

The Brewers dropped five matches on the campus of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, December 5. Vassar fell to Harvard University, 21-6; Sacred Heart, 15-12; New York University, 20-7; Princeton University, 21-6; and Penn State, 20-7.

Vassar finished second to Drew University at the Matt Lampell Hudson River Invite November 21 at Walker Field House. Conor Travaglione ’23 posted two victories in saber in the championship round. Frank Ryan ’24 and Benjamin Lee ’24 had wins in foil.

The Brewers won six of eight matches at the Vassar Invitational November 14 at Walker Field House. They posted victories over Yeshiva University, 22-5; Hunter College, 25-2; Haverford College, 17-10; Lafayette College, 21-6; the U.S. Military Academy, 18-9; and Cornell University, 15-12. The team lost to Drew University, 15-12, and to Stevens Institute of Technology, 16-11. Lee posted an 18-2 record in foil; Travaglione and Wolff Gilligan ’24 finished with 15-5 marks in saber, and Jack Plumer ’23 was 15-4 in epee.

Vassar opened the season by winning four of six matches at the Rangers Fall Invitational hosted by Drew University in Madison, NJ, on October 31. The Brewers defeated Stevens Institute of Technology, 14-13; Rutgers University, 21-6; Yeshiva University, 24-3; and the United States Naval Academy, 16-11. Vassar lost to Drew, 61-11, and the United States Military Academy, 14-13. Lee was 14-0 in foil competition.

Lee finished third overall in foil at the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Big One November 7 at Walker Field House. Plumer was sixth in epee, and Travaglione was eighth in saber.

Women’s Fencing

Vassar defeated Sacred Heart University, 15-12, but dropped five other matches on the Sacred Heart campus in Fairfield, CT, on December 5. Zoe Tolbert ’22 and Tori Lubin ’22 each won three matches in foil in the win over Sacred Heart. The Brewers lost their matches against New Jersey Institute of Technology, New York University, Princeton University, Penn State University, and Temple University.

The Brewers celebrated Senior Day with a victory in the Matt Lampell Hudson River Invite November 21 at Walker Field House. Vassar’s “Burgundy” squad defeated Drew University in the finals, 14-6. Tolbert and Hunter Grogan ’24 finished 3-0 in foil, and Lubin was 2-1. Danielle Golden ’25 posted two wins in epee, and Kira Wheeler ’25 was 2-0 in saber.

Vassar won five of seven matches at the Vassar Invitational November 14 at Walker Field House. The Brewers defeated Haverford College, 18-9; Lafayette College, 16-11; Drew University, 16-11; Fairleigh Dickinson University, 24-3; and Denison University, 19-8. They were defeated by Long Island University-Post, 16-11, and Wagner College, 14-13. Tolbert won 20 or 21 matches in foil; Wheeler was 14-7 in saber, and Olivia Barnes ’25 posted a 12-3 record in epee.

Tolbert finished third in the foil event at the NEIFC Big One event November 7 at Walker Field House. Barnes was ninth overall in epee, and Wheeler had three pool-round victories in saber.

Men’s Squash

Vassar lost matches to Connecticut College and Haverford College by 8-1 scores on December 4 at Kenyon Hall. Rithik Jalali ’24 won a tight match at #1 against Tyler McGuire of Connecticut College, 11-9, 10-12, 11-2, and 13-11. Samir Mustafa ‘23 was Vassar’s lone victor in the match against Haverford, defeating Peter Lehv at #2 by scores of 13-11, 11-7, and 12-10.

The Brewers won 17 of 18 matches against Colgate University and Lafayette College November 13 on the Bard College campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Henry Mitchell ‘22, playing in the #2 position, won his match against Lafayette in five sets and swept his match against Colgate, 3-0.

Hobart College blanked Vassar, 9-0, November 14 at Kenyon Hall. Patrick Looby ’25 played the most competitive match of the day, losing by scores of 15-13, 11-6, and 11-4.

Vassar opened the season by winning three of five matches November 6 and 7 at Kenyon Hall. The Brewers posted wins over Fordham University, 6-3; Northeastern University, 6-3; and Swarthmore College, 9-0. They lost to Georgetown University, 7-2, and Boston University, 5-4. Jalali won four of his five matches at #1.

Women’s Squash

Vassar blanked Bard College and Smith College by 7-0 scores on November 20 on the Bard campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Claire Coss ’22 posted an 11-5, 11-3, and 11-5 victory in her #1 match against Bard and won by scores of 11-6, 11-3, and 11-6 against Smith.

William Smith College swept Vassar, 9-0, November 14 at Kenyon Gym. Coss lost her #1 match, 11-6, 11-4, and 11-3.

The Brewers opened the season by sweeping four matches November 6 and 7 at Kenyon Gym. Vassar blanked Fordham University, 9-0, defeated Northeastern University and Colgate University by 5-4 margins, and posted a 7-2 win over Boston University. Coss posted wins in all four matches at #1.
