Women’s Rugby
Vassar fell just short of winning its fourth Collegiate Rugby Division II National Championship, losing to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 32-29, on December 3 in Houston, TX. Sophia Bailey ’26 scored two tries in the match, and Zoe Lynch ’25, Asia Baker ’24, and Jude Robinson ’26 each scored one. Lynch kicked two conversions.
The Brewers defeated the United States Coast Guard Academy, 48-38, in the semifinals on December 2. Bailey scored three tries, and Baker scored twice. Since 2017, the Brewers have won three national titles and finished second twice.
Vassar advanced to the Final Four of the National Collegiate Rugby Division II Championships with victories over Coastal Carolina and Temple universities on November 11 and 12 in Culpeper, VA. The Brewers edged Coastal Carolina, 17-15, then topped Temple, 38-10. Bailey scored the winning try in the game against Coastal Carolina and scored two tries in the victory over Temple.
Columbia University defeated the Brewers, 31-22, in the finals of the Tri-State Conference Championships on November 5 on the Columbia campus.
Vassar advanced to the finals of the Tri-State Conference playoffs with a pair of victories on October 28 and 29 at Vassar Farm. The Brewers blanked Stony Brook University, 65-0, in the quarterfinal match and defeated Fairfield University, 27-12, in the semifinals. Bailey scored a pair of tries in the win over Stony Brook and added a try in the victory over Fairfield.
Maggie Nealis ’27 scored three tries in Vassar’s 72-14 victory over Marist College on October 22 at Vassar Farm.
The Brewers blanked Fairfield University, 42-0, on October 14 at Vassar Farm. Baker scored four tries, and Lynch kicked three conversions.
Men’s Rugby
Roger Williams University defeated Vassar, 45-5, in the semifinals of the National Collegiate Rugby Championships at Vassar Farm on November 11. Bryce DiNardo ’24 scored the Brewers’ lone try.
Vassar won the Tri-State Conference Championship with a 47-31 victory over Hofstra University on November 4 on the Hofstra campus in Hempstead, NY. DiNardo and T. J. Usher ’27 each scored a pair of tries. Kiran Mullen ’26 kicked six conversions.
The Brewers edged SUNY Maritime, 19-17, in the semifinals of the Tri-State Conference championships on October 29 at Vassar Farm. DiNardo tied the game at 17, and Mullen kicked the two-point conversion for the win.
Vassar posted a 32-15 victory over Fairfield University on October 14 at Vassar Farm. Usher, Eli Schair-Rigoletti ’26, Olly Skeet-Browning ’24, and Gabe Slavin ’26 scored tries for the Brewers.
Women’s Cross Country
Vassar posted a program-best 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on November 18 in Carlisle, PA. Haley Schoenegge ’27 was the first Vassar runner across the finish line with a time of 22:31.1 in the 6k race.
Schoenegge paced Vassar to a seventh-place finish in a 24-team field at the NCAA Northeast Regionals November 11 in Westfield, NY. She finished 26th in a field of 174 runners. Anika Mueller-Hickler ’26 was 29th, and Norah Reade ’27 finished 30th.
Vassar won the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association Championship on November 4, defeating nine other teams at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome in Marlboro, NY. Nora Goldberg-Courtney ’26 finished fourth overall.
Vassar captured its first Liberty League Championship in history on October 28 at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva, NY. Schoenegge paced all Vassar runners with a third-place finish to take All-Liberty League First Team honors. Reade, Cayley Swaim ’27, and Mueller-Hickler finished eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.
Men’s Cross Country
Miles Takiguchi ’24 finished 84th in a 294-runner field at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on November 18 in Carlisle, PA. Takiguchi posted a time of 25:36.7 in the 8k race.
Vassar finished sixth in a 25-team field at the NCAA Northeast Regionals on November 11 in Westfield, MA. Takiguchi finished 10th overall in a field of 173 runners, posting a time of 24:32.560 in the 8k race.
Levi Lilienthal ’25 paced Vassar to a second-place finish in a 10-team field at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on November 4 at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome in Marlboro, NY. Lilienthal was fourth overall with a time of 28:27.3 in the 8k race.
Takiguchi paced Vassar to a second-place finish at the Liberty League Championships on October 28 at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva, NY. Takiguchi finished third overall with a time of 24:54.9 in the 8k race. Jose Magana ’25 finished eighth, and Aidan Mayer ’24 was 12th.
Women’s Basketball
Sierra McDermed ’26 led Vassar to a 64-51 win over Skidmore College on December 6 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. McDermed scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Bella Tawney ’26 finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Tova Gelb ’25 and Julia Harvey ’25 combined for 33 points and 10 rebounds in Vassar’s 75-52 win over William Smith College on December 2 at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
Vassar opened its Liberty League season with a 76-68 victory over Ithaca College on December 1 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. McDermed led the scoring with 23 points.
Vassar defeated Pomona-Pitzer College and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to win the David Wells Classic in Claremont, CA, on November 24 and 25. Harvey scored 19 points to lead the Brewers to a 63-52 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the opening round, and she finished with a game-high 23 points in the 74-56 victory over Pomona-Pitzer in the championship game.
Vassar won the Western New England Tip-Off Tournament with victories over Salve Regina University and Western New England University on November 17 and 18 in Springfield, MA. McDermed led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points in the win over Salve Regina and earned All-Tournament First Team honors with a game-high 16 points in the championship game against Western New England. Naiya Kurnik ’26 was named Tournament MVP.
SUNY New Paltz used a strong first half to defeat Vassar, 70-62, on November 14 on the New Paltz (NY) campus. The hosts built a nine-point lead after the first 20 minutes and never trailed the rest of the way. Gelb led all Vassar scorers with 21 points.
Harvey scored 23 points to pace the Brewers to a 72-59 win over Montclair (NJ) State University on November 11 at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
Men’s Basketball
Vassar used a second-half surge to defeat Skidmore College, 64-61, on December 6 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The Brewers trailed at halftime, 35-29, but Shea Fitzgerald ’27 and Luke Adams ’25 sparked the comeback. Fitzgerald finished with 17 points, and Adams scored 12.
Hobart defeated Vassar, 69-58, on December 2 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Fitzgerald scored a team-high 14 points, and Logan Scott ’24 had 10 rebounds.
Vassar fell just short in its Liberty League opener, losing to Ithaca College, 76-72, on December 1 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Fitzgerald scored 22 points.
Mount Saint Mary College defeated Vassar, 82-70, in the consolation match of the Hudson Valley Tournament on November 18 on the Mount Saint Mary campus in Newburgh, NY. Avery Lee ’27 scored 15 points for the Brewers.
Vassar fell to SUNY New Paltz, 76-65, in the opening round of the Hudson Valley Tournament on November 17 on the campus of Mount Saint Mary College. Adams scored 17 points.
Vassar fell to Williams College, ranked seventh in the country, by a score of 82-75 on November 14 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Adams finished with a game-high 22 points.
Vassar opened the season by winning the Hochberg Family Tip-Off Tournament November 10 and 11 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The Brewers defeated Gallaudet University, 59-48, in the opening round and defeated Haverford College, 80-52, in the championship game. Fitzgerald led all scorers in the win over Gallaudet with 17 points. Lee had a game-high 13 points in the victory over Haverford. Adams and Case Parsons ’24 each scored 12.
Men’s Soccer
Ithaca College broke a 1-1 tie in the 87th minute and defeated Vassar (8-6-4, 4-3-2 Liberty League), 2-1, in the first round of the Liberty League playoffs on October 31 on the Ithaca campus. Duncan Keker ’25 scored the only Vassar goal in the 13th minute.
Vassar clinched a Liberty League playoff berth with a 1-0 win over Rochester Institute of Technology on October 26 on the RIT campus. Jared Fiske ’26 scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute edged Vassar, 2-1, on October 25 on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. Nolan Alexander ’24 scored the Brewers’ only goal.
Danny Berry ’25 and Jackson Hall ’25 scored in the final 10 minutes to lift the Brewers to a 2-1 win over Ithaca College October 20 on Gordon Field. Owen Fauth ’24 assisted on both tallies.
Vassar fell to Clarkson University, 1-0, on October 14 on Gordon Field. Goalkeeper Vasilis Ganasoulis ’25 stopped two Clarkson shots.
Kinlay Watkins ’24 scored in the 64th minute and Vassar went on to defeat St. Lawrence University, 1-0, on October 13 on Gordon Field.
Women’s Soccer
Teresa Zimmer ’24 stopped four shots in Vassar’s 0-0 draw with Rochester Institute of Technology on October 26 on Gordon Field. The Brewers finished the season with a record of 8-4-5, including 2-2-5 in Liberty League play.
Vassar dominated the statistical battle but lost the war, falling to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 1-0, on October 25 on Gordon Field. The Brewers had a 15-6 edge in total shots and an 8-3 advantage of shots on goal but failed to score.
Vassar and unbeaten William Smith College, ranked fourth in the country, battled to a 0-0 draw on Gordon Field on October 22. Keeper Zimmer stopped six shots.
The Brewers defeated Clarkson University, 1-0, on October 14 on the Clarkson campus in Potsdam, NY. Vassar scored in the 64th minute when a shot by Noelle Namba ’25 bounced off a Clarkson player and eluded the Clarkson goalkeeper.
St. Lawrence University posted a 1-0 win over Vassar on October 13 on the St. Lawrence campus in Canton, NY.
Field Hockey
Ithaca College defeated Vassar (11-7, 5-2 Liberty League), 3-0, in the semifinals of the Liberty League Championships on November 3 on the Ithaca campus.
Vassar advanced to the semifinals of the Liberty League playoffs with a 2-1 victory over Union College on October 31 on Weinberg Turf Field. Sydney Kovel ’26 and Kelsey O’Connell ’24 scored Vassar’s goals.
SUNY New Paltz edged Vassar, 3-2, in a shootout on October 28 on the New Paltz, NY, campus. Sofia Beseth ’26 and Karina Hoffman ’27 scored for the Brewers.
Ithaca College edged Vassar, 2-1, on October 22 on Weinberg Turf Field. Tori Baker ’24 scored for the Brewers.
Vassar edged Union College, 1-0, on October 20 on the Union campus in Schenectady, NY. Kovel scored on a penalty corner from Molly Zahnleuter ’24 just before halftime.
Vassar defeated Skidmore College, 4-2, on October 15 on the Skidmore campus in Saratoga Springs, NY. Hailey Brigger ’24 and Juliana Ishimine ’24 scored in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Hoffman scored a pair of goals in Vassar’s 5-0 win over St. Lawrence University on October 13 on Weinberg Turf Field.
Women’s Volleyball
Vassar (17-10, 6-2 Liberty League) fell to Ithaca College in four sets in the semifinals of the Liberty League tournament on November 10 on the Ithaca (NY) campus. Maura McAusland ’27 recorded 16 kills and four digs.
Vassar advanced to the Liberty League playoff semifinals on November 7, defeating Skidmore College in four sets at Kenyon Hall. The Brewers dropped the first set, 25-23, but won the next three, 25-21, 25-23, and 27-25. Holland Kaplan ’27 led the Vassar attack with 15 kills, six digs, two blocks, and a service ace.
The Brewers posted a pair of straight-set victories against Russell Sage College and Marywood University on November 4 at Kenyon Hall. Kaplan had nine kills in the win over Russell Sage. Morgan Miller ’25 had three kills and eight digs in the victory over Marywood.
Vassar finished in a three-way tie for second place in the Liberty League standings with a five-set win over St. Lawrence University on October 28 in Canton, NY. McAusland had 12 kills, seven service aces, two blocks, and five digs. Later in the day, the Brewers defeated SUNY Potsdam in straight sets on the Potsdam campus. Kaplan had 11 kills.
Kaplan registered 22 kills in Vassar’s 3-2 win over Union College on October 25 at Kenyon Hall.
Liberty League leader Ithaca College defeated Vassar in straight sets on October 23 at Kenyon Hall. Melia Voss ’26 had seven assists.
Vassar defeated Rochester Institute of Technology on four seats at Kenyon Hall on October 20. Kaplan finished with 11 kills, seven digs, and three service aces.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
The Brewers finished eighth at the Bomber Invitational on December 1-3 at Ithaca College. Lucas Jauregui ’27 set a school record in the 50-yard backstroke in the opening leg of the 200-yard medley relay. He finished fourth in the 100-yard individual medley and seventh in the 50-yard freestyle. Ricky Kurosawa ’26 was 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Vassar defeated SUNY New Paltz, 153-118, on November 17 in Kresge Pool. Kurosawa won the 200- and 100-yard breaststroke events.
Jauregui won a pair of events in Vassar’s 186-93 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on November 11 at Kresge Pool: the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly.
Lukas Johnson ’24 won his first 200-yard freestyle event in Vassar’s 175-101 loss to Skidmore College November 4 in Skidmore’s pool in Saratoga Springs, NY. Jacob Cerone ’25 won the one-meter and three-meter diving events.
Cerone won both diving events, but Vassar fell to Montclair (NJ) State University, 166-107, on October 27 in the winners’ pool. Kurosawa won the 200-yard breaststroke.
Vassar fell to Brandeis University, 154-129, on October 21 on the Brandeis campus in Waltham, MA. Cerone, Kurosawa, and Hayden Ehrenfeld ’25 each won two events. Kurosawa won the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke races. Ehrenfeld won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, and Cerone finished first in two 100-meter diving events.
Vassar opened the season with a 106-24 victory over Bard College on October 11 in Kresge Pool. The 200-yard medley relay team of Kurosawa, Jauregui, Sam Deluca ’26, and Lukas Johnson ’24 posted a winning time of 1:39.88.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Vassar finished fifth in an 11-team field at the Bomber Invitational on December 1-3 at Ithaca College. The Brewers posted seven top-10 finishes. Alejandra Robins ’24 was fourth in the 100-yard individual medley, and Abigail McLaughlin ’26 was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Vassar defeated SUNY New Paltz, 169-87, on November 17 in Kresge Pool. Vivien Li ’27 won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:13.16.
Sarah Quintana ’24 won the 200-yard backstroke and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team in Vassar’s 170-124 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Kresge Pool.
Vassar swimmers won 11 events in their 181-110 victory over Skidmore College on November 4 in the Skidmore pool. Anna Little ’27 won the 400-yard individual medley in 2:05.41. Quintana was second, and Maleigha Vietti ’26 finished third.
Montclair State University defeated Vassar, 164-132, on October 27 in the Montclair pool. Addie Wiener ’26 won the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events. Li finished first in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly.
Vassar defeated Brandeis University, 166.5-128.5, on October 21 on the Brandeis campus in Waltham, MA. Bella Rippon ’26 won the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events and the 200-yard individual medley.
The Brewers opened the season with a 129-39 win over Bard College on October 11 in Kresge Pool. Vassar opened the night with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Members of the team were Jolie Walker ’24, Frances Pope ’26, Alanna Muello ’24, and Addie Wiener ’26.
Men’s Fencing
Vassar fell to five opponents on December 3 on the campus of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. The Brewers lost to New York University, 20-7; Sacred Heart, 17-10; Princeton University, 22-5; New Jersey Institute of Technology, 17-10; and Penn State University, 25-2. Eli Weise ’25 posted six victories in epee competition.
Vassar defeated two opponents and lost to four others at the Northeast Conference Multi-Meet on November 19 on the Boston College campus in Chestnut Hill, MA. The Brewers posted victories over Brown University and Wagner College, both by 14-13 margins. Vassar lost to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston College, Brandeis University, and Sacred Heart University. The foil squad—Federico La Rosa ’26, Brady Traugot ’25, and Benjamin Lee ’24—posted a 33-21 mark in the tournament.
Vassar posted four victories in a nine-team event on November 12 at Walker Field House. The Brewers defeated Hunter College, Stevens Institute of Technology, Lafayette College, and Yeshiva University but lost to Yale University, Haverford College, Johns Hopkins University, and Drew University. The foil squad won 49 of 72 bouts. Oliver Berger ’26 posted a 16-4 record.
Brian Li ’26 finished third overall in epee competition at the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Conference tournament on November 4 in Northampton, MA.
The Brewers opened the season by defeating three of seven opponents on October 29 on the campus of Drew University in Madison, NJ. Vassar defeated Clemson University, Lafayette College, and Yeshiva University but lost to Drew, Rutgers, Stevens Institute of Technology, and New Jersey Institute of Technology. Vassar’s sabre team finished with a 37-26 record.
Women’s Fencing
Vassar lost five matches on December 3 at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. The Brewers fell to NYU, 18-9; Sacred Heart, 19-8; Temple University, 24-3; New Jersey Institute of Technology, 15-12; and Penn State, 24-3. Kira Wheeler ’24 won seven matches in sabre competition.
Vassar defeated Sacred Heart University but fell to seven other teams at the Northeast Conference Multi-Meet on November 19 on the Boston College campus in Chestnut Hill, MA. Olivia Barnes ’25 and Zoe North ’27 were undefeated in the match against Sacred Heart.
Vassar defeated four of six teams at Walker Field House on November 12. The Brewers lost to Denison University and Drew University but defeated Lafayette College, Hunter College, Fairleigh-Dickinson University, and Haverford College. Wheeler won 11 of 18 bouts in sabre competition.
Barnes finished second overall in epee competition on November 4 at the Big One tournament hosted by the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Conference in Northampton, MA.
Men’s Squash
Vassar dropped a pair of matches to Connecticut College and Haverford College by 6-3 scores on December 2 at Kenyon Hall. Jared Haslinger ’25 won his match against Connecticut at Number 6 by scores of 11-5, 11-1, and 11-4, and he defeated his Haverford opponent by scores of 11-6, 7-11, 11-5, 10-12, and 11-8.
Middlebury College and Wesleyan University won all 18 matches in competition on November 19 on the Wesleyan campus in Middletown, CT.
Vassar was blanked by Hamilton College, 9-0, on November 17 at Kenyon Hall.
Vassar captured 14 of 15 matches against Bard College and Swarthmore College on November 11 on the Bard campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Jay Vashisht ’27 won a pair of matches at #2.
Vassar defeated Fordham University, 8-2, and Boston University, 9-0, on October 28 at Kenyon Hall. Rithik Jalali ’24 won both matches at #1.
St. Lawrence University blanked Vassar, 9-0, on October 27 at Kenyon Hall.
Women’s Squash
Vassar defeated Haverford College, 6-3, but lost to Connecticut College, 9-0, on December 2 at Kenyon Hall. Anna Lee ’24 won her #1 match against Haverford by scores of 11-7, 8-11, 8-11, 11-8, and 12-10.
Middlebury College and Wesleyan University defeated Vassar by 7-0 scores on November 19 on the Wesleyan campus in Middletown, CT.
Vassar defeated Wellesley College, 8-1, but lost to Northeastern University, 9-0, in matches on the Bard College campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Lee won her #1 match against Wellesley, 11-7, 13-11, and 11-7.
Vassar was blanked by St. Lawrence University but posted victories over Boston University and Bard College on October 27 and 28 at Kenyon Hall. Co-Captain Emma Adams ’26 posted wins over BU and Bard at #1.
