Baseball
Vassar (14-20, 5-12 Liberty League) closed out the regular season with a 4-2 loss to Bard College May 1 at Prentiss Field. Reid Lapekas ’24 had two hits and an RBI.
The Brewers split a doubleheader on the campus of Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson April 30. Vassar dropped the first game, 6-2, but won the second, 10-6. Adam Talwalkar ’23 had a home run and 6 RBIs in the second game. Jaden Millstein ’24 had a single and a double in the first game.
Vassar broke a 3-3 tie with five runs in the sixth inning and went on to defeat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 13-6, April 23 on Prentiss Field. Alex Warren ’23 knocked in two runs with a triple in the winning rally.
The Brewers lost a doubleheader, 13-1 and 7-4, to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute April 23 on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. Ty Murray ’24 had an RBI double in the first game. Millstein doubled and homered in the second game.
SUNY New Paltz scored five runs in the seventh inning, propelling the Hawks to a 12-9 win over Vassar on April 21 at Prentiss Field. Andrew Kanelis ’23 stroked a single, a double, and a triple and knocked in three runs for the Brewers.
Vassar split a doubleheader with Skidmore College April 16 at Prentiss Field. The Brewers won the first game, 7-6, but dropped the second, 5-2. Warren hit an RBI single in the seventh inning to snap a 6-6 tie in the first game. Kanelis had a run-scoring triple in the second game.
Skidmore College defeated the Brewers, 9-3, April 15 on the Skidmore campus in Saratoga Springs, NY. Kanelis and Millstein each had RBI doubles.
The Brewers scored five runs in each of the first three innings and defeated City College of New York, 22-3, April 13 on Prentiss Field. Marc Milano ’25 knocked in four runs with a single and a triple. Kanelis and Murray each homered.
Union College defeated Vassar, 9-5, April 12 on Prentiss Field. Nick Greenhawt ’23 singled and homered.
Women’s Tennis
Vassar (16-3, 9-1 Liberty League) fell to Skidmore College, 5-3, in the finals of the Liberty League Championships May 8 on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, NY. Melina Stavropoulos ’22 won her No. 4 singles match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, and teamed with Sofie Shen ’24 for an 8-3 win in doubles. The Brewers reached the finals with a 5-1 win over Ithaca College May 7.
Vassar completed an unbeaten season in the Liberty League with an 8-1 victory over William Smith College April 30 on Josselyn Courts. Shen won her No. 2 singles match and posted an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles with Stavropoulos.
Vassar cruised to an 8-1 win over Union College April 23 on Josselyn Courts. Tatum Blalock ’23 won her No. 1 singles match and teamed with Macey Dowd ’25 for a victory in No. 2 doubles.
Shen won the deciding match in Vassar’s 5-4 victory over Liberty League rival Skidmore College April 16 on Josselyn Courts and at Walker Field House. Shen defeated Skidmore’s Konika Dhull by scores of 2-6, 6-2, and 7-5. She also teamed with Stavropoulos for an 8-1 win in doubles. Shen’s singles victory took place in Walker Field House when rain forced the final matches indoors.
The United States Military Academy blanked the Brewers, 4-0, April 13 on the West Point campus.
Men’s Tennis
Vassar (10-9, 5-3 Liberty League) lost to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 5-0, in the semifinals of the Liberty League Championships May 7 in Ithaca, NY. The Brewers won their quarterfinal match, 5-1, over St. Lawrence University. Benjamin Almquist ’24 won his No. 2 singles match and teamed with Jay Wong ’24 for an 8-5 win in doubles.
Vassar lost to Hobart College, 7-2, April 30 on Josselyn Court. Arnav Agostinho ’25 won his No. 5 singles match with a 10-5 victory in the tiebreaker.
Stevens Institute of Technology defeated Vassar, 6-3, April 24 on the Stevens campus in Hoboken, NJ. Wong won his No. 1 singles match.
Wong won a marathon match at No. 1 singles, and Vassar defeated Union College, 6-3, April 22 on Josselyn Courts. Wong dropped the first set but won the next two, 7-6 and 7-5.
Vassar defeated St. Lawrence University, 7-2, on April 16 on the St. Lawrence campus in Canton, NY. Wong posted a 6-3, 7-6 win in No. 1 singles and teamed with Almquist for an 8-6 victory in doubles.
Women’s Lacrosse
William Smith College remained undefeated in Liberty League play with a 24-3 victory over Vassar April 30 in Geneva, NY. Elizabeth Kendrick ’25, Emma Torkelson ’25, and Kali Ringler ’25 scored for the Brewers.
St. Lawrence University outscored the Brewers, 7-2, in the second quarter and went on to post a 16-8 victory on the St. Lawrence campus in Canton, NY. Annie Uyeki ’23 had two goals and an assist.
Reilly Mulcahy ’25 scored three goals and assisted on two others in Vassar’s 14-5 victory over Bard College April 21 on the Bard campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
Union College defeated Vassar, 18-12, April 16 on Weinberg Turf Field. Maddie Kretten ’23 and Ashley Roberts ’22 each scored three goals.
Men’s Lacrosse
Union College defeated Vassar (7-7, 2-5 Liberty League), 22-4, April 30 on the Union campus in Schenectady, NY. Ryan Matz ’24, Riley Olds ’23, Logan Hyde ’22, and Shane O’Hara ’25 scored for the Brewers.
Troy Santise ’24 scored three goals and assisted on two others in Vassar’s 14-8 win over Clarkson University April 23 at Gordon Field.
Olds had a goal and an assist in Vassar’s 19-7 loss to St. Lawrence University April 16 on the St. Lawrence campus in Canton, NY.
Women’s Track and Field
Vassar finished fifth in an eight-team field at the Liberty League Championship May 6 and 7 on Weinberg Track. Elena Kops ’25 was fourth in the heptathlon, Sarah Gilooly ’22 was fourth in the 800-meter run, and Ava Novak ’24 finished fourth in the 200-meter dash. Novak teamed with Malinda Smith ’23, Lola Perez-Fry ’23, and Traci Francis ’25 for a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 relay.
The 4x100 relay team finished second at the RPI Capital District Classic in Troy, NY, April 30. Members of the team were Francis, Novak, Perez-Fry, and Smith. Novak also finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.20 meters, a personal best.
Faye Stevens ’25 won the 400-meter hurdles at the Williams College Farley Invitational April 23 in Williamstown, MA. Stevens ran a personal best, 1:10.14. Kayleigh Mason ’24 was second. Gilooly won the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 2:19.52. Sophie Farr finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:00.48.
Vassar finished 15th in a 21-team field at the Connecticut College Silfen Invitational April 15 and 16 in New London, CT. Stevens set a school record in the heptathlon with 3,569 points. She finished fourth overall.
Men’s Track and Field
Vassar finished sixth in an eight-team field at the Liberty League Championships May 6 and 7 on Weinberg Track. Miles Takiguchi ’23 won the 1,000-meter run and was fourth in the 5,000-meter run. Aidan Mayer ’24 won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Darnell Worley ’24 was fifth in the 100-meter dash.
Benny Clark ’25 and Jason Cirrito ’25 finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run at the RPI Capital District Classic April 30 in Troy, NY. The 4x100 relay team of Worley, Tucker Quinlan ’23, Ryan Mazurkiewicz ’22, and Sam Lytel ’24 finished third.
Jack Casalino ’22 and Takiguchi finished ninth and tenth, respectively, in the 10,000-meter run at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA, on April 29. Mayer posted a personal best of 14:50.02 in the 5,000-meter run.
Vassar posted top-five finishes in several events at the Williams College Farley Invitational April 23 in Williamstown, MA. Andrew Blackburn ’24 won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a career-best 10:00.40. Worley was fourth overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.44. Mayer, Jonathan Dean ’22, and Gibran Mourani ’22 finished second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run.
The Brewers finished 10th in a 20-team field at the Connecticut College Silfen Invitational April 15 and 16 in New London, CT. Mayer was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and took 14th in the 1,500-meter run. Casalino was sixth in the 5,000-meter run, setting a Vassar record with a time of 14:41.58.
Women’s Golf
Sufina Noorwez ’24 finished 32nd overall at the Vassar Invitational April 16 and 17 at Casperkill Golf Club in Poughkeepsie, NY. Noorwez posted scores of 88 and 81.
Noorwez finished in a tie for ninth place at the Liberty League Championships May 1 in Vernona, NY. She posted rounds of 90 and 79.
Women’s Rowing
Vassar’s Varsity Four finished sixth overall at the New York State Championships April 23 on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, NY. Members of the crew were coxswain Anne Adams ’25, Sarah Winickoff ’25, Sarah Dumaresq ’24, Claire Mitchell ’24, and Birky Cook ’23.
The Varsity Four finished first at the Hamilton Regatta April 16 in Rome, NY. Members of the crew were coxswain Abigail Straus ’25, Winickoff, Dumaresq, Mitchell, and Anna Bishop ’25.
Men’s Rowing
The Varsity Eight finished sixth overall at the New York State Championships April 23 on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, NY. Members of the crew were coxswain Jean Fassler ’24, Nick Winkler ’24, Rafi Ettinger-Finley ’24, Jakob Huddleston ’24, Lucas Angles ’23, Ben Vinson ’25, Gage Karlin ’24, Joshua Hernandez ’23, and Alex Roth ’24.
The Varsity Four finished second at the Hamilton Regatta in Rome NY. Members of the crew were coxswain Fassler, Winkler, Ettinger-Finley, Matthew Peoples ’24, and Willem Doherty ’25.
Men’s Rugby
The Brewers spilt four matches at the Beast of the East tournament April 24 in Portsmouth, RI. Vassar won by forfeit over Salve Regina and defeated Johnson and Wales University, 36-5. The Brewers were edged by the University of New England by scores of 14-10 and 22-19.
Women’s Rugby
Vassar finished fourth in the American Collegiate Rugby Association 7s championship May 1 in Stonington, CT. The Brewers defeated Kutztown (PA) University, 27-17; Fairfield University, 22-10; and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 30-15. Vassar fell in the semifinals to Colorado Mesa College, 19-5, and lost to Columbia University, 26-12, in the consolation game.
The Brewers outscored their four opponents by a combined score of 263-7 at the Beast of the East tournament April 23 in Portsmouth, RI. Vassar defeated Marist College in the championship game, 71-7. Caeli Porette ’22 had 15 tries in the tournament. Emily Howell ’22 scored 11.
