A Philosopher’s Holiday Lecture by Licia Carlson, Professor of Philosophy at Providence College and author of Shared Musical Lives: Philosophy, Disability, and the Power of Sonification. 

What does it mean to share music with others as performers, composers, and as audience members? And how can this experience be ethically transformative? This talk will consider these questions through the lens of disability and explore how shared musical experience can reveal dimensions of both ourselves and others. Whether it is in the concert hall or in the intimacy of the everyday, inhabiting a shared musical world can enlarge the moral imagination, reconfigure relationships, and further the cause of disability justice.
