Plucked Strings
Skinner Hall of Music
A different take on the music for harpsichord, with guitar and violin. Harpsichord and guitar both generate sound by plucking the strings, yet each of the instruments possesses a very unique timbre. This program is an exploration of different musical styles, heard through an intricate, kaleidoscopic texture. The violin provides contrast, and also contributes to the texture with its own pizzicatos. The program includes some rarely heard pieces, including Sonata for harpsichord by Bohuslav Martinû and Sonata for violin and harpsichord by Darius Milhaud, as well as works by Bach, de La Guerre, Chopin, Wilson, Mellits, and Ponce. Marija Ilić, harpsichord, Roberto Granados, guitar, Anna Elashvili, violin.
