Lecture by James Shapiro, author of The Playbook: A Story of Theater
Hallie Flanagan Davis Powerhouse Theater
Come join the Drama Department for a lecture by Dr. James Shapiro, Larry Miller Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. Dr. Shapiro will be speaking about material from his new book, The Playbook: A Story of Theater, Democracy, and the Making of a Culture War, which documents the history of the Federal Theater Project (1935–1939).
The Federal Theater Project was helmed by Vassar’s own Hallie Flanagan, under whose stewardship the Vassar Drama Department was first established. The lecture will take place in the Hallie Flanagan Davis Powerhouse Theater, which is named in her honor.
Sponsored by the Drama Department, with generous support from the Dean of Faculty Office.
