Chelsea C. Harry, Professor of Philosophy, Southern Connecticut State University to give a lecture titled, “The Concept of Living Well in Aristotle’s Zoology.”

Just as Aristotle’s concept of eudaimonia gives meaning to human flourishing in his ethics, he coined special terms and turns of phrase to describe non-human animal species’ well-being in zoology and psychology. In this talk, Professor Harry will discuss her research into the context and meaning of four such terms and turns of phrase in Aristotle’s work before proposing that the concept of non-human animal flourishing remains relevant to contemporary global issues, e.g., sustainability, animal ethics, and anthropogenic climate change in the 21st century.
