Join Janice Gallagher, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Rutgers University-Newark as we discuss her new book Bootstrap Justice: The Search for Mexico's Disappeared (2023, Oxford University Press).

Talk Description: How do people battle impunity in places where grave rights violations are normalized and the judicial system provides scant recourse? In this talk, Janice Gallagher shares insights from her award-winning book Bootstrap Justice: The Search for Mexico’s Disappeared. She connects individual processes of transformation through claim-making and mobilization to collective and systemic outcomes, showing the surprising ways in which victims of rights abuses substantively erode impunity.

Sponsored by the Sociology Department and Dean of Faculty.
