’08 Advocate/Rape Crisis Counselor
Since leaving Vassar, I’ve realized how much my major in STS now shapes not only the way I perceive the world at large but also how I relate to and interpret my more immediate surroundings. Having a so-called “STS mindset” is partly what got me my current job. I am an advocate and crisis counselor for the North Coast Rape Crisis team in Eureka, California. While working on an organic farm last summer, the science aspects of my STS studies were relevant and now, as a social worker, I’ve felt that the work I did on my Senior Thesis has been much more relevant and useful. However, it isn’t the separate components of my STS education that have mattered most. It is in fact, the multidisciplinary aspect of STS that has truly prepared me for my career.
