Annual “Service of Lessons and Carols” to Ring in the Season

A perennial favorite, Vassar’s “Service of Lessons and Carols,” which features readings, choral anthems, and congregational carols and culminates in a candle lighting ceremony, will be held at Vassar College in the Vassar Chapel on Sunday, December 6. This popular event is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program, sponsored by Vassar College Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and the Department of Music, will feature the Vassar College Choir, Vassar College Women’s Chorus, and the Cappella Festiva Chamber and Treble Choir. Singers from the Vassar Community will come together with these groups to form the Lessons and Carols Choir, an ensemble of 150 singers. The featured soloist will be tenor Nathan Carlisle, a member of the Metropolitan Opera Chorus. The choirs are under the direction of Christine R. Howlett, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Vassar, and alumna Susan Bialek ’86, music teacher at Dutchess Day School in Millbrook, NY.
